THE FUTURE
Whilst France and Italy were the pioneers in the Indian marketplace and indeed they still are a strong presence, now it is the new world wines ( Australia, California, Chile, South Africa ) which are beginning to drive growth with their fruit-forward and good value wines.
There is a quiet revolution or perhaps renaissance towards new world styled winemaking as possibly evidenced by some old world producers taking on of these techniques.
Australia's competitive advantage here also is that Australian wines are easier to understand, their labels are clear and more approachable and their character and quality has found easy acceptance. Similarly our cultural recognition is high as we are affiliated via our mutual love for cultural icons such as cricket.
The history of wine consumption tells us that every big wine market in the world obviously starts small.
Undeniably in Australia's case, growth in consumption was initially slow as very few people drank wine fifteen years ago and indeed the industry was pulling up vines 20 years ago.
But wine now represents a multi billion dollar industry to Australia which has also become a recognised, serious and well-respected international player.
Pick of the Bunch sees similar potential for exponential growth in supplying the emerging Indian luxury hotel market.
